Immigration
As a proud child of immigrants, I know firsthand the pain and hardship that families endure due to our broken immigration system. Our nation's policies have torn families apart, including my own, causing immeasurable suffering and heartache. It's time for real change. We must institute an immediate moratorium on deportations until a thorough audit of past practices and policies is conducted. Families like mine have been unjustly torn apart by inhumane deportation measures. It's essential to pause these actions and reassess how our system has failed so many.
As a nation, it is time to stand by our stated values and build a more just, transparent, navigable, and humane immigration system — one that reflects the best of who we are. In Congress, I will advocate for policies to:
- Reinstate and expand DACA, offering protection to those who arrived as children and have known no other home but this country.
- Develop a compassionate and fair policy for those seeking asylum. The process for asylum seekers has been marred by inefficiency and cruelty, undermining the values this country stands for.
- Reform our immigration enforcement system fundamentally. This includes auditing and reimagining agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol.
- Reunite those who have been forcibly separated. It's time to dismantle the cruel and inhumane deportation programs and detention centers that have caused irreparable harm to families and communities.
- Provide refuge to those fleeing persecution, violence, and the ravages of climate change. It's not just a matter of policy; it's about our identity as a compassionate and welcoming nation.
- Overhaul our approach to immigration, focusing on compassion, fairness, and human rights. We must pave the way for refugees and those seeking asylum, ensuring they find safety and support within our borders.
