Supporting our Veterans
Our Veterans have given so much to our country, and it’s our turn to take care of them. While there’s nothing we can do to truly repay the debt of their selflessness and bravery, we can adjust our policies to better meet their needs, and their families’ needs, including:
- Making the VA more efficient and easier to navigate. A comprehensive reform of VA benefits and services will ensure that veterans receive the support they deserve, including disability compensation, pensions, and survivor benefits.
- Streamlining transition to civilian life. This is a huge transition, but we can make it easier for veterans by ensuring they have access to accurate information and resources for job training, GI Bill benefits for education, and employment opportunities for veterans transitioning to civilian life, ensuring they have access to meaningful career paths.
- Better supporting our veterans and their families. We can save lives through dedicated mental health support, PTSD treatment, and suicide prevention programs for veterans, reducing the stigma associated with seeking help. Further, we must support caregivers of veterans and their crucial role in providing care and support to veterans with disabilities.
- Addressing homelessness among veterans. I will prioritize efforts to end veteran homelessness by providing housing assistance, mental health services, and supportive programs tailored to the needs of homeless veterans. You can read more about housing insecurity here.
